General Advice Cell phones/Sim Cards

For Americans
For those americans traveling, if you want to be able to use your cell phone abroad get one that uses SIM card technology. SIM cards are little 1/2inch by 1/2 inch cards that essentially give your phone a local(Argentine, England, Thailand) phone number, while using your original phone. You still have to buy minutes with phone recharge cards that can be found at gas stations and newstands. Think of SIM cards as gameboy video game cartiages and your phone as a gameboy, where each cartiage is a SIM card that can be used in a new country. Now If you have a phone with a sim card, call your phone company and tell them to unlock your phone for international SIM card use, because some phone companies lock their phones so they can only be used by their network.

For Everyone Else
If you have a phone with a sim card make sure the phone is "unlocked" so that SIM cards from other countries can be used. Ideally, this should be done at home, but usually it can be done in other countries if you know who to ask.
