Airport Shuttle

*Manuel Tienda Leon airport shuttle service - $8 US around 40 minutes

Bus-from airport

  • the cheapest way to get into town from the airport is taking bus 86 into town (3 pesos or so), but make sure you have change to use on the bus.The bus pickup is outside terminal B arrivals. The bus will take around 2 hours to get to the center of town (microcentro) If you want to get from downtown to the airport, make sure to take the bus line 86 that has "AEROPUERTO" written on the side of it because there are several 86 lines going to different places.

Bus-overland

  • The main bus terminal is called Retiro Station. The Retiro website is in spanish so if you can't read spanish, you might want to try this omnibus website. If you want to get anywhere in argentina or most of south america, Retiro station is the place you want to be. It is located at the end of the blue subway (subte) line.

Boat

  • Buquebus has boats going to and from Colonia and Montevideo. Check their website for more information

Getting Around

  • Subway (subte) lines are the best way to get around central buenos aires. Subway tickets are cheap, but the subway closes around 10-11pm. There's a map of the subway stops. A 1-way ticket costs less than a peso. It's a pretty sweet deal, but at peak hours, there's a good chance you'll be crammed in tight or have the subway train just keep going past you completely.

-Taxis

  • taxis are a good way to get around town but unfortunately, many taxistas take advantage of people who don't know their way around town. Read the Taxi driver scams warning to keep yourself from getting screwed.

Buses (collectivos)

  • The cheapest way to get around town, but the hardest to learn how. They sell a "Guia T", which is a booklet of the bus routes and maps, almost everywhere (kiosks, newspaper stands, etc) and once you get one, it will be fairly easy to navigate town. Bus rides usually are around 1 peso, and run all day everyday, but run less frequently late at night and on holidays.

Get on the bus and tell the driver "un peso or uno por favor" and they'll push a few buttons and you'll insert money into a machine next to the driver and it will spit out your change and a paper receipt. Sit back and enjoy the ride. Watch the locals push a button on the bus to tell the driver to stop at the next spot. When its your turn, push the same button. shazam, you've taken the bus.
