General Advice/Warnings
It's the Vatican. Cover your shoulders and wear pants or jeans (guys can get away with shorts as long as they aren't too short) or you don't get into St. Peters.

There's no shortage of stories about waiting for hours on line at the Vatican to see things. Largely dependent on what time of year it is. Arrive early to beat the crowds and have the rest of the day still to yourself.

The above advice goes double for the Sistine Chapel. Make the effort to be there at 8am when it opens and avoid the 3-4 hour lines I hear so much about.

There are fountains with drinking water in the plaza fronting the Vatican. Bring a plastic water bottle and you're set for the day. This goes for all of Rome really.
